Deciding what to wear everyday can be a difficult task…so figuring out what to wear for your engagement photos could be even harder. Questions clients often ask me is should we match, should we wear color or just black and white. Here are five tips I tell my clients. Hope this helps.
1. Everyone has a unique personality…so show it off and wear an outfit that fits you.
I tell my clients to pick an outfit that best represents their personality. By doing this you will be more confident and more comfortable as I take your photographs. I don’t want you to be constantly adjusting and pulling at your clothes. Your engagement photos will be much nicer if you are happy and relaxed. You don’t want your day to be ruined. So absolutely be comfortable in what you’re wearing. It doesn’t matter your style, whether it is modern, classic, trendy or vintage. It just needs to reflect you!
2. If you like color, choose color and don’t be afraid.
Black and white is great. But color and prints can be so much fun! The only thing you really need to think about is you don’t want your colors or prints to clash. So, if the bride is going to wear a bold print, then the groom should probably stick to a solid color, and vice versa. Otherwise, the overall look of your engagement photos can get a little too busy. Also, be sure to bring a couple of different outfits to your photo shoot, like one classic and one dressy or one fun and casual. By doing this, you will get the most out of your engagement photo session.
3. Don’t be afraid to accessorize!
So on the day of your wedding accessorizing can be a little tricky. But for your engagement photos it could be so much fun. I encourage my brides-to-be to bring that cute necklace or scarf you love. Put that bold bright flower in your hair and don’t forget to bring those fantastic new shoes your dying to wear.
4. Don’t try to be “matchy…matchy”.
I know you both have so much in common, but there is no need to match perfectly. The twin look has the potential to back fire and make your photos looks stiff. Instead, try to complement each other or wear shades of the same color.
5. Brides to be….don’t forget hair, nails and makeup.
Of course many brides are on top of that when it comes to their wedding day, but don’t forget your engagement photos are just as special. Make sure you look polished and complete. This will help make sure there are no imperfections caught by the camera. It doesn’t have to be done professionally though. If you have a friend who’s great at it, ask her to help you. Or just make sure you take the time get a manicure and style yourself like you’re going out on the town.
